Jan. 12, 2017 report- Baitfish are still scarce in this area but shrimp seems to be working just fine. A cold front came through this past weekend and that should help the bite on winter species such as Pompano, Sheepshead, Snapper, Flounder, and Mackeral. The pompano bite is picking up as is Sheepshead and Snapper. With this cold front that’s come through, it seems like Snook and other species have headed into warmer area. This means they can be targeted in either deeper waters or further inland, where the sun can heat the shallower water.
Offshore fishing has improved greatly. Large Tripletail is being caught along the crab lines. Amberjack, Kings, various Snapper, and Grunts are found up to 15 miles offshore. Grouper are still around.
